Tame Your Tongue : Mrs Penny Pincher

Growing up, I always remember hearing my momma quote the infamous line from Bambi, "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all".

How nice it would be if more people put this saying into practice! There would be a lot less hurt feelings and bitterness among friends, relatives, and co-workers.

How often do many of us of speak without thinking? I know I'm guilty! How do our words affect others around us? The tongue is only a small part of our body, but how powerful a tool it is! It can bring joy and praise, or it can cut someone down with stinging remarks.

Hurtful words can be compared to a tube of toothpaste. If you squeeze a tube of toothpaste, what happens? Toothpaste comes out. Can you put it back? No! Once the toothpaste is out of the tube, you've got a mess. Believe me, my three year old has shown me this. Just like the toothpaste, once the hurtful words are out of your mouth, you can't put them back, and chances are, you'll have a big mess afterwards.

The next time you open your mouth, think before you speak. Is your comment going to help the person you're speaking about?

James 3:1-12
