Swagbucks : Mrs Penny Pincher

Search & Win

Ya'll like free stuff? ME TOO! In fact, thanks to Swagbucks.com, I've been able to get my husband's Christmas gifts for almost nothing! I got $25.00 worth of Amazon.com gift cards for free by earning Swagbucks. I just cashed them in last week, and ended up paying a little over $2.00 out of pocket because I had spent $27.xx.

What are Swagbucks? They are 'web dollars' you earn just by using their search engine. You're basically using a watered-down Google, but you have the opportunity to earn Swagbucks when you search on their site. I usually get (2) $1.00 Swagbucks a day. Sometimes I get lucky and get a $2, $3, or $5 Swagbuck. Once you have enough Swagbucks accumulated, you can cash them in for stuff in the Swag store. This includes gift cards!

Most of the Kroger coupon matchups for this week are a repeat of last week's ad. To save myself some time, please check out last week's matchups here.

You will get a $10.00 rebate WYB 10 participating Nabisco products. The Crackerfuls aren't included so that expiring coupon you have on hand won't help you that much. Also, Kroger has their brand stick butter on sale for $1.65. You can't buy butter that cheap at Sam's Club, so that's a good stock up price if you're doing holiday baking!

Fridays With Faith "Thanksgiving, A Family Time" : Mrs Penny Pincher

Been a while since I've posted a story by my momma, so here's a Darling Family Story for Thanksgiving. Enjoy!

"Thanksgiving, A Family Time" by Faith

"Over the river and through the woods," sang Ross Darling with his nose pressed against the car window.

Grace giggled. "You mean, 'over the hills and around the bends to Grandmother's house we go," she corrected.

Daddy joined in the fun. "Over the hills and around the bends to Grandmother's house we go. The van knows the way so we won't stray through the fields all dusted with snow - OH."

Soon all the family joined in the improvised verses. Because of the rollicking good time the Darlings were enjoying, the trip to the small community of Sunrise was quickly reached.

Momma was the first to speak. "Oh, there's Nancy and Will's car. I was afraid that they wouldn't be able to make the trip!"

"There's Aunt Betty and Uncle Billy," added Grace, "that means Melody's here. I see Diane, too." She squealed with delight! "Oh, what a wonderful day I'm going to have!"

"Ah," grumbled Ross, "all silly girl stuff."

"Look, son, I see Lemmy and Rick over in the field," said daddy.

"Gr-eat. It's going to be a winner of a day after all. Do you see John?" Ross questioned.

"No, I sure don't. But you know your Aunt Norma and Uncle Lee, they are always late. Why, I recall last summer's family reunion," daddy chuckled, "it was time....."

Momma interrupted, "Enough, Alan. It wasn't that hilarious!"

"Let's get organized. Ross, you carry the rolls. Grace, here's the pecan pie. Daddy, here's Noah and I will carry these dressed eggs. We'll have to come back for the rest of the food," instructed momma.

"Now, Alan, it's your job to watch the baby," said Momma.

"I know, Dear," replied Daddy. And as Momma opened her mouth for more instructions, daddy steered her toward the house.

"I promise to be a good daddy and watch Noah carefully. I realize he can't come into the kitchen 'cause he might get burned, AND, he can't play ball with the big boys 'cause he'll just get hurt," said daddy with a mischievous twinkle in his hazel eyes.

"Now, get cookin' woman," teased daddy, " I'm starvin'!"

And cook those six sisters, mother and one sister-in-law did! The small four room house was wreathed in mouth watering aromas.

"Ah, I just can't stand it any longer," groaned Ross. "I've gotta have turkey and dressing...and gravy.....and sweet 'taters....and rolls....and oysters....and....and...and..."

"Hold on there, young feller," laughed Pap-paw Holland. "How about a little 'too-lou' to tied you over until our feast?"

Ross and all his fourteen cousins agreed that Pap-paw's idea was a grand one.

As Pap-paw passed out the bubblegum, the cousins decided to have a bubble blowing contest. The shouts of laughter and the continuous cracking and popping of the 'too-lou' hastened the preparation of the feast considerably.

In the not too soon future, the ladies told all the relatives to gather round the big round oak table. Every family member joined hands while pap-paw prayed. He thanked God for the harvest and the food that each lady had prepared. Then, he thanked God for Jesus's soon coming. He even mentioned the wonderful Thanksgiving that they would all have in Heaven.

After pap-paw's 'Amen' there was many a wet eye and blowing of the noses. New napkins had to replace the icky ones. Everyone sat down and the feasting began. I wonder if the Pilgrims had as many goodies as the Holland family?

A very full and tired and happy family headed back home. Momma's dishes were empty and clean. A sleepy Grace asked her daddy to explain her Pap-paw's prayer.

"What don't you understand, Grace?" Questioned Daddy.

"Well, I know that Jesus is coming again and very soon! But what did Pap-paw mean about the wonderful Thanksgiving in Heaven? My tummy is so full, I don't think it could hold anymore turkey!"

"Not to mentioned anymore scalloped oysters!" Added her rotund brother.

Daddy grinned and prayed about the correct answer to Grace's question.

"Pap-paw was talking about all the family members being present and accounted for in Heaven. He was talking about a big family reunion."

Momma added, "Won't that be a wonderful time! Everyone there and no sickness and no disease! I think of the dear ones, already in Heaven. That upcoming Thanksgiving will be so wonderful!"

Ross cleared his throat and tried to sound very grownup.

"But what if they don't know Jesus, mom?"

Momma's eyes were clouded with tears. "Then, son, we just have to pray much harder that the ones outside the fold of Christ, accept Him and enter in."

"Amen and amen," said daddy.

Darling Family Bible Verse:
..."Yes, I am coming soon. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. Revelation 22: 20

No More Cheap Turkeys at Walmart : Mrs Penny Pincher

Apparently, Walmarts across the country are sold out of the $0.40 a pound turkeys, and there's a good chance they aren't getting anymore to restock. Even though customers were limited to 2, they'd do multiple transactions to get more turkeys. Even restaurants were cashing in on the deal.

That's. NOT. Fair.

So many more people could have used a turkey for $0.40 a pound. Walmart should have had more control over the limits. Kroger and ValuMarket both have turkeys for sixty-something cents a pound, BUT you have to make a minimum purchase BEFORE you get that low price. Walmart should have done the same thing.

Hey, I like a good deal as much as another person, but I have my limits. I would have been happy with one or two turkeys for that price. I was more excited at the thought that Thanksgiving dinner was suddenly more affordable for those really in need.

What has happened to thinking of others, not just yourself?

Target 11/15-11/21 Coupon Matchups : Mrs Penny Pincher

Wow! Target has some AWESOME deals this week on pantry items. These are cheap enough to not only get for yourself, but also to grab extras to donate. I think this weekend the Boy Scouts are 'Scouting For Food', so surely you can spare a few bucks and fill up a Kroger bag to leave for them to pick up.

Ann at Honoring The King was gracious enough to already post some matchups here.

There is also a coupon in today's Smart Source for $1/8 Del Monte canned foods. That will work for the Target deal as well.

Couponing 101 - Kroger : Mrs Penny Pincher

I'm going to try to start a series of posts of 'how tos' when it comes to couponing. This week I'm focusing on using coupons at Kroger. If you are new to couponing, I hope this helps you! If you have a question or any other tips I might have forgotten to mention, please leave a comment.

  1. If you don’t have a Kroger card, GET ONE! You must scan a Kroger card to get your sale prices to come off at the register.

  2. Another advantage to having a Kroger card means more savings at the Kroger gas pump.

  3. Also, by having a Kroger card, they will track your purchases and sometimes send you customized coupons for items you buy frequently. You will also likely get special promo coupons for upcoming sales sent to you.

  4. Kroger runs their sales from Sunday to Saturday. Some times a big promo will run two weeks.

  5. Yellow sale tags at Kroger show you how long the sale price on that item is good for.

  6. You can load ‘clip free’ coupons on to your Kroger card. These are called eCoupons (electronic coupons). These are available through ShortCuts, Cellfire, and P&G. Occasionally, Kroger will have other available sites to load coupons onto your card. With these coupons, you can stack them (combine) with a paper Manufacturer's coupon for even more savings!

  7. They will double coupons up to $0.50. If you have a coupon for $0.35 off, it will double to $0.70 off. A $0.50 coupon will double to $1.00. Even if the coupon says do not double and it’s $0.50 or less, as long as the bar code starts with a ‘5’ it will double. If it starts with a ‘9’, it will redeem for face value.

  8. Kroger doubles UNLIMITED coupons. That means if you have (5) $0.50 off coupons for Pillsbury Biscuits, Kroger will double all 5 of those coupons.

  9. Kroger will also accept LEGAL Internet printed coupons.

  10. When Kroger has a 10 for $10 sale, you do not have to buy 10 items. You can just buy one item at the sale price of $1.00 each. In other words, you don’t have to buy 10 items just to get the sale price.

  11. When Kroger has a Buy One Get One Free sale, they will simply take 50% off the retail price of each item. They do this instead of charging you full price for one item, and getting the second one free. This actually makes a better deal for you! For example, Cover Girl Mascara is Buy One Get One Free. Its regular price is $5.00. They will charge you $2.50 for that mascara, and $2.50 for the second mascara. So, with that said, you don’t even have to buy two items. Buy the one for $2.50. If you have a coupon for the mascara, use it!

Kroger Mega Event 11/1-11/7 : GET MONEY BACK : Mrs Penny Pincher

Final two days of the Mega Event! Hope you've stocked up. I'm still planning on a few more trips myself. After the past two weeks, I sure could use a grocery break, but I'm not complaining.

There is a rebate for $5.00 cash back when you buy $15.00 or more participating products. Those products include Mega Event items such as Nestle Toll House, Quilted Northern, and Uncle Ben's Rice.

Click HERE for more info, and how to get your rebate.

Also had to share my quick trip to Kroger yesterday. Was hoping to get some more free Mega Event deals, but they were sold out of things I wanted. They did have the Yakisoba noodles though, and plenty of them! They also had Snickers Halloween candy on clearance, and I had a coupon! (did I need the Snickers, no, but they were cheap!)

I bought 8 boxes of Yakisoba Noodles, and 2 bags of clearance Snickers.

Total OOP: $1.01 Saved 94%

Cheap Sargento Cheese @ ValuMarket : Mrs Penny Pincher

Well, since ValuMarket's ad was pretty *yawn* this week, I decided against matchups.

BUT...

They do have a fantastic unadvertised special going on for select Sargento sliced cheese!

Sargento Colby Jack is $0.99. Sargento Mild Cheddar is $1.50. There is a coupon out there for $0.40/2. I think it was in a Smart Source. Can't find it the databases I check.

Anyway...

That coupon would make cheese as low as $0.59 a package!

Now the kicker...

Try finding the cheese IN STOCK! Yep, been twice this week, and both times no cheese.

I want...no...I NEED cheap cheese!

Mr. Kelty, please restock your cheese. Pretty please?

I'm gonna have a LOT of laundry detergent when all is said and done. Stockpiling at $0.06 a load so I don't have to pay $0.12-$0.15 a load to do my wash. It's worth it.

Got my coupons I ordered from Coupons & Things by Dede. This included some Yakisoba coupons to get free noodles, and $1.50/2 Cheez Its coupons that we didn't get in our papers. Click on the link provided to order some coupons you might need. Totally worth it!

Ok, no pic again, but sharing my THIRD trip to the Kroger Mega Event with you. As long as our cars cooperate (oh please PLEASE), I hope to make a few more trips before the Mega Event is over. Plus, I've got more coupons on the way that I ordered so I can get cheap Cheez Its! My lil' coupon babies love cheese crackers!

Well, first of all, not included in the Mega Event, but in the Halloween clearance cart, we grabbed a couple bags of fun size Snickers for $0.95 each. I had to restrain myself from grabbing more.
