A Decade In Review : Mrs Penny Pincher
It's amazing to see how many changes have occured in the last ten years for me. The good things? Well, I discovered the internet which in return helped me get the nerve up to start dating. Got my first kiss (which was NOT pleasant). Thank God I didn't have to stay in the dating world too long because I met 'the one'. Got engaged. Got married. Worked several jobs I loved, and some I hated. Saw my little brother and other family members get married. Got pregnant TWICE! Had two beautiful little babies. Started couponing. Started blogging. Started volunteering. And, I made new friends. I'm sure I'm leaving some good things out, but those are what stand out the most for me.
But, even with the good, you know bad things are bound to have happened. And, the bad things that did occur were drastic. Seeing my mom go from walking to being confined to a bed barely able to do anything for herself. Getting that phone call one morning as I was getting ready for work that my mom had died. Dealing with the grief, and the choices my dad made after my mom's passing. Closing on our first house only to have my husband's job down-sized a few days after. Being pregnant without a mother. Trying to BE a mother without a mother.
I know all things, good and bad, shape and mold my life, and the type of person I have become. What will this decade hold? My children going to school, my first gray hair, my 40th birthday...holy cow, I better stop before I need a hankie! And, if you spot my first gray hair before I do, please be kind and tell me so I can find a coupon for Clairol.
May God bless this new decade, and each of you!

Tame Your Tongue : Mrs Penny Pincher
How nice it would be if more people put this saying into practice! There would be a lot less hurt feelings and bitterness among friends, relatives, and co-workers.
How often do many of us of speak without thinking? I know I'm guilty! How do our words affect others around us? The tongue is only a small part of our body, but how powerful a tool it is! It can bring joy and praise, or it can cut someone down with stinging remarks.
Hurtful words can be compared to a tube of toothpaste. If you squeeze a tube of toothpaste, what happens? Toothpaste comes out. Can you put it back? No! Once the toothpaste is out of the tube, you've got a mess. Believe me, my three year old has shown me this. Just like the toothpaste, once the hurtful words are out of your mouth, you can't put them back, and chances are, you'll have a big mess afterwards.
The next time you open your mouth, think before you speak. Is your comment going to help the person you're speaking about?

Fridays With Faith "Whose Child Is This?" : Mrs Penny Pincher
************************************
"Whose Child Is This?" by Faith
Grace carefully curled the red and green ribbon on her gift. Hers just had to be the prettiest present! There was always a prize for the prettiest package!
Ross looked through the catalog for the upteenth time. He gazed longingly at the soldiers and all their battle gear. He could just imagine having all those toys. Why, he'd be the most popular boy in the fourth grade. Say, why worry about friends! It'd be great having All Those Toys!!!! Ross laid back with the catalog lying across his stomach. He was lost in day-dreams... Day-dreams of being the kid with all the soldiers and all their stuff!!!
Noah was busy watching the television. For once, no big people to interfere! The remote was his and His Alone! So many pretty Christmas programs! Ah, here was one! Puppets and music, music and puppets. Noah was almost gleeful! He was able to watch and flip the remote to his heart's content!
Momma was busy in the kitchen. Slowly the counters were filling with cakes and cookies and candy. She was determined to make certain that her goodies were the best gifts given by the Carolers.
The Christmas season was in full swing at the Darling family's house. Everyone was busy with their own contribution to the holiday. They were checking their lists, sometimes twice 'cause they wanted what they had asked for, that would be nice!
Later that afternoon, Mam-maw Darling came over. She helped momma box candy, pin the darts for Grace's angel costume, hem Ross's Shepherd's outfit, and she made sure that toddler, Noah's suit, was pressed and ready.
"Each year, I promise myself that I will not be swamped, but," continued momma, "I always am!!!"
Mam-maw Darling just smiled and told Harmony that this would pass, perhaps too quickly. Harmony was young and found this hard to believe. She was exhausted! Her mother-in-law just didn't understand!!!! The chiming of the clock told them all it was time for the Christmas practice at the church. In fact, this was the last practice! Momma was so thankful that daddy volunteered to take the kids. That is momma was thankful until she saw the mountain of dishes that she had to wash and dry!
Christmas was such a tiring time! So much to do! So much hard-earned money to spend! Credit card bills! Christmas cards to mail! Why, you could almost agree with Ebenezer Scrooge and say, 'Bah, Humbug!' Momma could honestly say that she'd be glad when these holidays, Christmas and New Year's, were over. Then, everything would be back to normal....that is, until Valentine's Day!
"Go to your rooms, both of you! No, no....no more talking!"
Daddy thundered at Ross and Grace as they slunk off to their rooms. Alan, red-faced and angry, briskly walked into his study and slammed the door.
Noah awoke with a cry. Momma hastened to soothe his fears. Grace tip-toed in the nursery. She waited while momma got Noah back to sleep. Grace remembered the lullaby. Momma still sang it to her when she was sick. After momma had tucked Noah back into bed, the two 'girls' walked into the kitchen. Neither spoke as momma fixed them a cup of cocoa.
"Momma," said Grace, "doesn't the word, 'Christmas' come from 'Christ'?
"Yes, it does," answered the momma.
"Well, I've been thinking 'bout it, real hard! And you know," the little missy spoke wisdom, "we've really messed up. We've messed up BIG TIME!"
"And how's that, Gracie?" Questioned momma.
"Well, just think. I've thought about being first in my class, Ross only thinks about getting the best toys, Noah thinks about being first with the remote, you think about being the best homemaker, and daddy thinks about being the best dad. Christmas is about what we can do for Jesus. Look at what Jesus did for us!!! What have we done, what are we doing for him?"
Daddy entered the kitchen.
"You're so right, Gracie. We forgot all about Jesus. We got so caught up in the tinsel and glitter...."
"....the baking and the greetings"...added momma....
"...and the commericals and the toys" continued Ross....
"That we forgot!" Said the sister. "And that's what Satan wants us to do!!! Forget....forget about doing and giving to others. That's what Jesus spent his life doing!"
"A preacher could not teach so eloquently! We need to get our act, together! There's nothing wrong with celebrating Christmas. But, oh, we forgot the heart of the season. That heart is caring for others!!!"
"And looking for Jesus to return," added Ross.
"People need the Lord and they need to see Jesus in each one of us!" Said Daddy. "What 'child' needs a card? What 'child' needs a 'phone call'. What 'child' needs someone to just listen? What 'child' could use a housekeeper or cook? Oh, there are many children in this world. Children that do not need criticism or a lecture. They just need love and concern, a listening ear and a caring heart."
*******************
At this time of year we sing, 'What Child is This?' We sing it with tenderness and fervently. But wait!!!! What better way for everyone to see Christ than in us. Whose child is this? Why, ours!!!! Let us treat each 'child' as our own!!!! Let us, indeed, practice the Golden Rule and treat others like we would like to be treated!!! Wake up!! People need us....are we giving of ourselves? Do we have a tender and caring heart? I'm afraid we are alot like the Darlings. But are we fortunate enough to wake up to our short comings before it's too late??? 'What Child is This?' 'Whose Child is This'???? Why, every 'child' is ours!!!

Fridays With Faith "The School Poem" : Mrs Penny Pincher
"Momma," Ross came running through the kitchen, "help me, please."
Momma lifted her flour-covered hands from the wood block blanketed with bread dough.
"I'd like to help, Ross, but I'm very busy. What's the problem?" Questioned Momma.
"I have this ol' poem to write for school using each letter of the word 'Christmas'. I'm just too dumb to think of anything."
Momma wiped her hands and smiled.
"You're far from dumb. We just need to talk to our Heavenly Father to give you some extra wisdom."
The mother and son knelt in the kitchen and asked God to help Ross write the assignment for school.
"Now, Dear. How about some freshly baked cookies and a glass of milk to get those thought waves coming?"
Harmony brought cookies, milk, paper, pencils, and oh, yes...Ross into Daddy's study.
"You can work here, Ross. It's so much quieter. Now, son, just let the Lord help you."
Momma left Ross alone to ponder out his problem. He looked around the big business-like office and he saw a framed Bible verse.
'Be still and know that I am God.'
"Oh, God. This is Ross Darling. I know you probably know me best for all the bad things I've done. I'm sorry about the lizard in Grace's jewelry box but.... God, it sure was funny the way she jumped and yelled. Please God, help me write this ol' poem. In Jesus name, Amen."
After seeking some extra wisdom and guidance, Ross tackled the assignment.
When English class began the following day, Ross proudly handed in his completed lesson.

A Christmas Poem
C is for candles with flame so bright showing the way home, each and every night.
H is for the Holy Babe that was born into a world that was black and sin torn.
R is for Christ's rising from the dead so His believers could have eternal life, instead.
I is for Israel, the apple of God's eye the land in which our Savior, lived and died.
S is for Savior, our soon coming King. Won't it be great! His praises to sing.
T is for testimony- His story to tell to our neighbors, our friends, our enemies as well.
M is for Mary, Martha, Moses, and Mark; Saints of the Scriptures-who of Jesus would always
remark.
A is for ALWAYS. Always explains Jesus' love. Isn't it wonderful to know, He's coming from above.
S is for soon! I know soon will be, My family in Heaven - our Jesus to see!
Fridays With Faith "A Christmas Visit With The Darlings" : Mrs Penny Pincher
"A Christmas Visit With The Darlings" by Faith
You there! Yes, YOU! Come on in. Don't look so surprised. Magical things happen at Christmas time. By the way, let me offer you my paw. My name's Birdie. I guess you can tell by my red coat that I'm an Irish Setter. I'm the protector, playmate, and baby-sitter of this home. Let me show you around. Be quiet, now. My humans are asleep.
Momma Darling lets me sleep here in the kitchen. I like bedding by the heater vent. I stay nice and toasty warm.
See that plaque over the kitchen door? Daddy Darling says that's the motto of this home. Do you recognize it? It's a verse from the book of Joshua chapter 24, verse 15.... 'as for me and my houses, we will serve the Lord'.
They certainly work hard at proving that statement true. If you'll look as we pass through each room - you'll see Bible verses on the walls.
This is the dining room. It's not fancy but it is nice.
Here's momma and daddy's bedroom. You know, they pray all the time. Most often they ask the Lord to help them be good Christians that are pleasing to Him. Then, they ask for wisdom and guidance in being parents, husband and wife, friend, and worker. Oh, they are not model Christians but they pray about it and really try.
Here's Ross's room. You can see by the pennants and posters that he loves basketball. Ross has some trouble with his temper. But God and he are working on that.
Next is little Noah's room. Doesn't he look so sweet and cuddly? He is talking and learning right from wrong.
Grace's room is very lady-like, don't you think? She enjoys reading the Susie books by J.C. Brumfield. Grace believes that she will be a school teacher when she grows up.
Well, you've met all my family. Now, here is my favorite room. It's ordinarily called a 'den' but I call it the 'family altar' room. EVERY evening at 6:30 we all gather here. Daddy reads from the Bible and we discuss all of our problems and obtain answers to our questions. Then, everyone kneels at their chair and prays. Daddy is first, Ross is second, Grace prays next, Little Noah follows, and Momma ends the time of talking with our Heavenly Father.
Well, here we are back in the kitchen. I think I'll catch a quick nap before breakfast. Thanks for coming. See you again, soon. Nighty-night.

General Mills & MyBlogSpark $1.00 off Cereal Coupon : Mrs Penny Pincher
General Mills and MyBlogSpark have teamed up to share some exciting news regarding some of your favorite cereals! General Mills has announced a commitment to further reduce sugar in cereals advertised to kids under 12 to single digit grams of sugar per serving. The company has already been reducing sugar in cereals while increasing key nutrients, such as calcium and vitamin D, and providing whole grain.Did you know that ready-to-eat cereal eaters consume less fat, less cholesterol and more fiber than non-cereal eaters? Cereals also deliver important vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients, making cereal a top source of key nutrients in children’s diets.
Other cereal benefits:
- Ready-to-eat cereals, including presweetened cereals, account for only 5% of sugar in children’s diets.
- Ready-to-eat cereal is the No. 1 source of whole grains in a child’s diet today.
- More frequent cereal eaters tend to have healthier body weights and lower Body Mass Index measures.
Studies also demonstrate the benefits of eating breakfast. A 1998 study showed that children who eat breakfast tend to perform better at school. Compared to children who skip breakfast, children who eat breakfast score higher on tests, are less likely to miss class or be tardy, have fewer reported discipline problems, and make fewer trips to the office.
For more information about kids and cereals, please visit Cereal Health & Wellness.
General Mills and MyBlogSpark are kindly sharing some coupons with me for free cereal! Thank you!
And, as a gift to you, General Mills is providing you with a $1.00 off printable coupon here. Use the coupon on such favorites as Lucky Charms, Trix, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, or Cocoa Puffs.

Are you pondering what I'm pondering? : Mrs Penny Pincher
So, I'll admit, I'm not keeping up with my blog like I used to. Honestly? It was taking up too much time. I'd still like to keep it going, but would love to have some feedback about what my readers (what's left of you) would like to see.
I've pretty much given up on Meijer matchups. I know that was a big draw to my blog, but those matchups took me hours to do. And, since I'm no longer shopping at Meijer (got tired of the Mealbox coupons not working, and my MQ getting adjusted down), I didn't feel the need to further support them.
I hadn't done ValuMarket matchups this week because there just weren't that many to mention.
You can pretty much count on the Kroger matchups to be done weekly. I'm also trying to make sure I show any eCoupon deals too. Kroger is my 'go to' store, so that is the store I will feature the most on my blog.
As far as printable coupons and freebies, I'm not sure I should even try to keep up with those. Or should I? There are so many bloggers out there that keep up with that kind of stuff, I'd just feel redundant posting them here.
On a personal note, I intend to continue to use my blog to promote the works and needs of The Shepherd's Shelter, and to share the writings of my mom. Both are very dear to me, and this is my outlet to gain exposure for both.
Thoughts? Advice? I'd love to hear from you!

Enter To WIN A $35.00 Jiffy Lube Gift Card : Mrs Penny Pincher
**THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED**
I'm so excited to be able to offer the chance to win a $35.00 gift card to Jiffy Lube to ONE of my lucky readers!
Thanks to MyBlogSpark for allowing me to participate in this giveaway. And, a BIG thanks to Shell Lubricants and MotorOilMatters.org for providing a gift card for myself, and one to give away to one of my readers.
In the United States the average age of cars and light trucks on the roads today has reached a record high of 9.4 years, making it more important than ever for consumers to take proper care of their vehicles. With the new web site http://www.motoroilmatters.org/ (created by industry-leading brands Pennzoil, Quaker State and Shell Rotella); you can easily locate key information that will help prolong your engine’s life and improve overall efficiency, as well as help answer any questions you may have about motor oil. In addition, the site offers a fun, educational game for you to play called “M.O.M. Knows Best” where you can put your motor mind to the test with an interactive quiz.
Did you know?
- According to a study by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association, nearly 9 out of 10 female motorists are involved in their household's vehicle maintenance and repair
- According to a national survey that polled 522 women, 46 percent incorrectly assumed simply switching from conventional engine oil to synthetic oil enables the number of miles between oil changes to be safely extended*
- Using a quality motor oil in the right grade can help maximize fuel economy, and help save money by preventing costly engine damage
- Off-brand, no-name or discount oils that do not meet industry standards or the vehicle manufacturer’s requirements could cost consumers in the long run by potentially damaging the vehicle’s engine or possibly voiding the manufacturer’s warrant
* Jiffy Lube Survey Conducted by Opinion Research Corporation, 2006
So, want a chance to win? Here's how:
1) MANDATORY entry: You MUST be a follower of my blog. Become a follower, and leave a comment saying you are one.
2) If you already are a follower, as a Thank You, you get an extra entry! Just leave a second comment letting me know.
3) Take the the Motor Oil Matters Quiz here, and leave a comment telling me your score. I only scored 40 points. What can I say? A motor oil expert I am not.
4) Blog about this giveaway on your blog. Leave a comment here telling me you did so with a link back to your blog.
5) BONUS ENTRY: If you are an ACTIVE member of the forum I help run, Kentuckiana Coupon Clippers Club, give yourself an extra entry! And, by ACTIVE I mean 5 or more posts. Thank you for making the forum what it is.
Please be sure to leave your email address in your comments so I have a way to contact you. Type it out like this to prevent spammers: mrspennypincher at gmail dot com.
Contest ends Wednesday December 9 at 12 NOON. One winner will be chosen through random.org. The winner will have 48 hours to contact me with their mailing information. If the winner does not respond within the time given, a new winner will be chosen.
Good luck!
